Close to 1500 spectators attended as
the weather was perfect for the third year in a row! All the
spectators took in the sights of the awesome snow sculptures
that lined the entrance of the park with a theme of "The Wild
Wild West." The senior classes Wild Stallion took the first
prize in the contest as its detail and size provided a great
subject for photos. The sounds of the Mountain Tones
entertained the crowd with a variety of music that helped to
create the festive atmosphere. Carnival King and Queen Oliver
Robinson and Charlene Vail led the parade painting a Rockwellish
picture as an array of kids pulled their sled around the rink.
The crowd was wowed by Nationally ranked amateur skaters Rohene
Ward and Emily Hughes along with a dozen local skaters from Ice
Time in Newburgh and Kutsher's in Monticello. Many patrons took
advantage of the horse drawn sleigh ride and watched the dogs
mush around Rotary Park's ball field. Over 600 hotdogs and 1000
cups of hot chocolate were served compliments of the sponsoring
club. Kids of all ages belly-flopped around the rink as Olympic
style medals were awarded to the winners of the dozen races that
took place. The skaters of the day were crowned and then the
rink was open for all to try their skills for the rest of the
afternoon! Overall it was a great day! |
